Celebration of Life for Professor Bruce J. Winick

A Celebration of Life for Professor Bruce J. Winick will be held on Friday, September 24 at 12:30 p.m. at the University of Miami’s Lowe Art Museum.

A faculty member at UM’s School of Law since 1974, Winick passed away last month after a long battle with cancer. The New York University School of Law graduate was the first Laurie Silvers and Mitchell Rubenstein Distinguished Professor of Law at UM, as well as a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. He co-founded the field of therapeutic jurisprudence and was the inaugural director of a UM law school center dedicated to that area of law. He authored and edited numerous books and journal articles, receiving many awards for his work.

“A giant in the legal community” is how UM President Donna E. Shalala described him.

The UM community is welcome to attend the Celebration of Life. RSVP to [email protected] by Tuesday, September 21.

The School of Law has posted an In Memoriam page for Winick that provides details about memorial contributions, comments and news coverage, social media and Web links, and more.
