Richard J. Thurer

Richard J. Thurer, B and Donald Carlin Professor of Thoracic Surgical Oncology and ombudsperson for the Miller School of Medicine, is the recipient of the Faculty Senate’s 2010 James W. McLamore Outstanding Service Award.

The award recognizes a member of the University community who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to the institution. It was established in 1987 and is named after the co-founder of Burger King and former chair of the UM Board of Trustees. Barth Green, professor and chair of neurological surgery and co-founder of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis; Norm Parsons Jr., director of wellness and recreation; and former UM President Edward T. Foote are among the past recipients of the award.

President Donna E. Shalala and the Faculty Senate will host an awards ceremony and reception on Wednesday, April 13 at 5 p.m. in Storer Auditorium to honor Thurer.
