Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute Quarterly ISCI Seminar Series: Cell Transplantation and Cardiac Recovery: Is Endogenous Cardiac Progenitor Cells Contributory?

The Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute will present its Quarterly ISCI Seminar Series on Thursday, January 20 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Retter Auditorium. Jianyi Zhang, professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School will present “Cell Transplantation and Cardiac Recovery: Is Endogenous Cardiac Progenitor Cells Contributory?” Participants will be able to discuss and explain the current understanding of myocardial bioenergetics at basal- and high-cardiac work states of normal or failing hearts with or without cell transplantation. They will also discuss the potential mechanisms of beneficial effects of cellular therapy for the injured heart. Participants will share their knowledge and interests in pursuing the novel applications in this emerging field of cellular therapy.
