South Florida’s sweltering heat and humidity can cause anyone to sweat, whether you’re just standing outside for a few minutes or being “green” by biking to work. Unfortunately, a place to shower or freshen up is not always available.

A new University of Miami initiative gives employees and graduate students who bike to campus but are not members of the Herbert Wellness Center access to the state-of-the-art fitness facility’s locker rooms.

The UBike Locker Room Access Program gets under way today, augmenting the institution’s UBike initiative that features bike security and safety tips, an online map showing bicycle rack locations on campus, free U-locks and registration by UM Police, and more.

Individuals who want to participate in the program must fill out an application in the sales office on the second floor of the Herbert Wellness Center. In addition to locker room access, towel service can also be purchased. After registering, individuals will receive a laminated card that gives them access to the locker rooms.

In order to utilize the locker rooms, participants must stop at the front desk of the Herbert Wellness Center and show their UBike card and ’Cane Card. Front desk staff will hold onto their UBike card while they are in the facility. They can then pick up their card on the way out. Participants can use their ’Cane Card in the pro shop for daily lockers or towel service.

For more information on the program, call the Herbert Wellness Center sales office at 305-284-5433.
