In celebration of National Nutrition Month and Women’s History Month, The University of Miami and the Nursing Mothers Advisory Group will host an education class for moms to be and new moms. Breastfeeding Basics: What Every Mother Should Know will be held on Friday, March 29 in Room 692 of the Clinical Research Building on the medical campus. The class will be presented by Lourdes Gonzalez-Bellido of the Department of General Pediatrics. The class will start promptly at 9 a.m., and a continental breakfast will be served.
The Nursing Mothers Advisory Group was formed to identify needs, review suggestions, and discuss the best approach to implement the Break Time for Nursing Mothers Policy. Members of the Nursing Mothers Advisory Group include representatives from the Coral Gables and Miller School of Medicine campuses, University of Miami Hospital, and the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association. UM has opened ten lactation rooms across its campuses: four on the Coral Gables campus, three on the medical campus, two at University of Miami Hospital, and one at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
