University of Miami faculty and staff members enrolled as primary policyholders in the UM/Aetna medical plan can earn up to $300 through a new incentive program that allows them to earn points for completing preventive health care activities such as getting an annual physical and keeping a log of their exercise and eating habits.

The new 2013 Well ’Canes Wellness Incentive Program is designed to help employees learn more about their health and maintain or improve their overall well-being while earning a monetary reward in the process.

It is administered through Vermont-based PureWellness, which will track through its website the number of points earned by employees. Annual mammograms and colonoscopies, participation in the Aetna Healthy Lifestyle Coaching and Disease Management Programs, and completion of a PureWellness online health assessment are among some of the ways employees can earn points.

Incentive payments will be added to employees’ UM payroll check within four to eight weeks after a reward level is reached. The first level—750 points—comes with a $150 incentive payment. After 1,500 points, employees will earn an additional $150.
