University of Miami faculty and staff will soon receive an online assessment that will allow them to share thoughts with senior leadership regarding their total rewards—from pay and health care plans to educational opportunities, career development and advancement, and work-life options.

The online assessment, which is being called ’Canes Total Rewards—Your Thoughts, is unlike anything the University has ever undertaken, according to Nerissa E. Morris, vice president for human resources. “We’re giving employees the opportunity to tell us which parts of their total rewards package are most meaningful to them,” explained Morris. “Their thoughts, along with leadership guidance and relevant market strategies, will be used to guide future decisions regarding our ’Canes Total Rewards programs.”

Faculty and staff should look for an invitation to participate in the assessment in an email from UM Benefits on Monday, September 9. They will have until Friday, September 20 to complete it. The assessment will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete. “While we recognize this is a significant time investment, it will allow our employees to respond thoughtfully regarding the value they place on each of the benefits in their ’Canes Total Rewards package,” said Morris.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to complete the online assessment during normal work hours but can finish the survey at any time that is convenient for them. Employees will be able to start, stop, and save their responses if they’re unable to complete the assessment in a single session.
