The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Division of Neonatology welcomed more than a thousand neonatal specialists from more than 49 countries to its 37th annual international conference, “Miami Neonatology 2012,” last month. The three-day conference and one- day workshop held at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach November 13-16 examined the newest developments and best practices in neonatology.
The conference, which offered simultaneous Spanish translation, also featured more than twenty commercial exhibitors.
Program directors Eduardo Bancalari, M.D., professor of pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology, and Charles R. Bauer, M.D., professor of pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, and psychology, joined thirteen guest speakers from across the United States and the world to discuss neonatal ventilation and respiratory care, the prevention of gastrointestinal disease, optimizing newborn nutrition, cardiac physiology, ethics, neurologic insults, potential for stem cell therapies, and other topics critical to the unique needs of premature and very low birth weight infants.
The conference was dedicated to the memory of Cleide Suguihara, M.D., a beloved member of the faculty who died earlier this year.
“Miami Neonatology 2014” will take place next November 12-15, again at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
