Award-Winning Jazz Vocalist and UM Alumna Nicole Henry Headlines Black Awareness Month Events at UM

    Nicole HenryCORAL GABLES, Fla. (January 28, 2015)— Acclaimed jazz vocalist and alumna Nicole Henry headlines a superlative lineup of Black Awareness Month (BAM) events at the University of Miami throughout February. Henry, a 2013 Soul Train Award winner for “Best Traditional Jazz Performance,” will discuss her career, share memories of her UM undergraduate years, and perform at the BAM Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, February 5, at 7 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Ballrooms. The event is free and open to the UM community.

    Sponsored by United Black Students, Multicultural Student Affairs, and the Black Alumni Society, BAM will present a number of other events, including a forum on the challenges and triumphs of minorities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields, a poetry slam, a discussion on the portrayal of blacks in the media, and an oratory contest.
