CORAL GABLES, Fla. (September 22, 2015) – Orange, green, and white are the University of Miami’s official colors, but during the month of October, pink will take center stage on the Coral Gables campus as Zeta Tau Alpha sorority launches its annual “Think Pink” breast cancer awareness campaign in collaboration with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

The ZTA chapter at UM is co-sponsoring the inaugural ZTA Think Pink Cobb Fountain Lighting featuring President Julio Frenk and his wife, Felicia Knaul, a breast cancer survivor, advocate, and researcher. The fountain lighting will take place on Monday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Miami Student Center Complex Lakeside Patio Stage.

“Lake Osceola is such an iconic symbol of UM right in the heart of campus. We are excited to light the fountain pink with President Frenk and Dr. Knaul,” said Christine Castiglione, a UM senior and co-director of philanthropy for ZTA at UM. “Zeta Tau Alpha hopes to bring the UM community together and raise awareness for a cause that hits home for many, including our first lady. We want to welcome her into the UM family with open arms.”

The entire ’Canes community is invited to join members of ZTA, President Frenk and Dr. Knaul for this empowering and moving event, which will include personal stories from members of the UM community affected by breast cancer.

Think Pink, a national campaign that partners the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation with other organizations, such as the National Football League, Bright Pink, and American Cancer Society, highlights October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In addition to the fountain lighting, ZTA will host a variety of on-campus activities throughout the week of October 12, its official Think Pink Week.

Since breast cancer education and awareness are the focus of ZTA’s philanthropic efforts, UM’s Think Pink events will include tabling in the University Center breezeway with breast cancer awareness ribbons and self-examination materials, Survivor Night, and a ceremony in which a large pink ribbon will be placed on the U statue.

For more information about the Cobb Fountain Lighting and about all Think Pink week activities, visit ZTA’s Facebook page or send an email to [email protected].
