    For the third year, the University of Miami is a global sponsor of eMerge Americas on April 18-19

    The University of Miami is among the global sponsors of eMerge Americas, the annual event that positions Miami as the technology and innovation hub of the Americas. The event brings together civic leaders, industry titans, entrepreneurs and global thought leaders to connect and share ideas about visionary advances in technology. eMerge is a hybrid business-to-business event that includes a unique EXPO floor experience, rich networking interactions, and summit presentations along both the eGov and WIT (Women, Innovation & Technology) tracks.

    Free registration for a Tech Pass has been extended to students, faculty, and staff who by sign up through Eventbrite.

    President Julio Frenk will speak on Monday, April 18 at 3:10 p.m. on the topic of hemispheric innovation strategies to transform lives. His presentation, titled “A Hemispheric Innovation Strategy,” will focus on creating a groundbreaking concept of the Hemispheric Innovation Lifecycle, which will include the Hemispheric Innovation and Technology Initiative (HIT) and Hemispheric University Consortium at UM. A question-and-answer session following President Frenk’s remarks will be moderated by Telemundo’s Edgardo Del Villar.

    Alberto Cairo, the Knight Chair in Visual Journalism at UM’s School of Communication and director of the visualization program for the UM Center for Computational Science, will present on Monday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. on “Unlocking Information: The Power of Data Visualization for Journalists, Scientists, and the Rest of Us.”

    Various UM representatives from many disciplines will participate in the events with a Hackathon on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16, continuing through the EXPO on Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Attendees who visit the UM booth on site in the Exhibition Hall will engage in content demonstrations showcasing research and innovation in Smart Cities, Visualization, and Health Care, all areas in which UM is transforming lives. The UM booth is located in space #C2.

    In addition to Frenk and Cairo, among those scheduled to participate from the University are Norma Kenyon of U Innovation, Isaac Prilleltensky, dean of the School of Education and Human Development, and Dr. Lee Kaplan of UHealth.
