Supervised Exercise Program Available at UM Wellness Centers

    Individuals who are not currently exercising and would like to start a new routine under the guidance of an exercise professional may be eligible for the Supervised Exercise Program provided by the UM Wellness Centers. Participants will be given an initial fitness assessment that will be used to create a personalized exercise prescription that includes a series of goals.

    The program is available to faculty and staff. To participate, you must possess at least two of the following risk factors:

    • Body mass index (BMI) greater than 27
    • Waist circumference greater than 40 inches (males) or 35 inches (females)
    • Diagnosed with high blood pressure or taking blood pressure medication
    • Diagnosed with high cholesterol or taking cholesterol lowering medication
    • Diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes
    • Exercise less than 90 minutes per week
    • Physician’s clearance required prior to program enrollment

    Classes will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. at the Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center; and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. at the UHealth Fitness and Wellness Center. The cost is $300 for the 12-week program. In addition, UM employees who complete the program will receive a 20 percent rebate and 550 Well ’Canes points. Payroll deduction is available.
