HealthyCampus Week Returns October 16-20

    Healthier.PartnershipCORAL GABLES, Fla. (October 9, 2017) – Healthy Campus Week returns to the University of Miami October 16-20 when the Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center, in collaboration with the Partnership for a Healthier America Healthier Campus Initiative, will present a variety of special events and activities free to the UM community.

    Beginning on Monday, October 16, get ready to challenge yourself with the Fitness Challenge. Think you can out-sweat the competition? Join the challenge to prove it! Check in at the Fitness Desk for more information.

    Also on Monday, start the week off on the right foot with Cycling in the Atrium at 6:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 5:30 p.m., or 7:15 p.m.

    Be the Best U on Tuesday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wellness Center Atrium, where there will be complimentary fitness testing, blood pressure screenings, and giveaways.

    Bring your own mat (B.Y.O.M.) to UM’s Largest Yoga Class at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18 in Centre Court. This yoga class is free and open to the UM community. Enter the raffle for the chance to win a Manduka yoga mat.

    Stop by Thursday, October 19, to meet all the UM campus partners involved in making the healthy choice the easy choice at the Healthy ‘Cane Network Wellness Fair from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Herbert Wellness Center Atrium.

    Finish the week with relaxing chair massages on Friday, October 20 from 3–6 p.m. in the Herbert Wellness Center Atrium. In addition, Fitness Challenge winners will be announced on Friday. Winners will also receive Manduka yoga mats.

    The Partnership for a Healthier America works with the private sector to ensure the health of the nation’s youth and end childhood obesity. By brokering commitments with colleges and universities, the Healthier Campus Initiative helps campuses adopt guidelines around food and nutrition, physical activity and programming.

    “This is the fourth year of UM’s collaboration with Partnership for a Healthier America and the University has made great strides to make our campus a healthier one,” said Scott Levin, executive director of the Herbert Wellness Center. “From providing healthier food and beverage services at on-campus dining venues to encouraging physical activity and movement through facilities and programs on campus, every UM partner is committed to helping students, faculty, and staff make healthier choices that will ensure their personal and professional success.”
