Please remember to review and make any necessary changes to your W-4 (Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate) for the 2018 tax year. This review will help you determine if your filing status and/or number of withholding allowances will need to change for the new tax year.

You may review and make changes to your W-4 in Workday via the Pay worklet -> Actions -> Withholding Elections.

    Exempt W-4 Expires on February 15, 2018

If you are currently claiming “exempt” from withholding tax status and wish to continue this exemption for 2018, you must complete a new Form W-4 by February 15, 2018. An exemption is only good for one year. If a new W-4 is not received, the university must begin withholding federal income tax as single, with zero withholding allowances.

You may review and make changes to your W-4 in Workday via the Pay worklet -> Actions -> Withholding Elections.

    2018 Social Security Changes

The Social Security Administration has announced that the 2018 social security wage base increases to $128,400 (from $127,200 in 2017). The maximum social security tax that employees and employers will each pay in 2018 increases to $7,960.80 (from $7,886.40 in 2017).  There is no limit on the wages subject to Medicare tax; covered wages are subject to the 1.45 percent. Taxable wages in excess of $200,000 are subject to an additional Medicare tax rate of 0.9 percent.
