Yoga has been shown to increase flexibility and balance, improve mood, and reduce fatigue, sleep disturbances, and joint discomfort. In this 50-minute seminar presented by the Faculty and staff Assistance Program (FSAP), participants will learn gentle and modified yoga poses to safely stretch, strengthen, and relax the body in a chair with a combination of movement, controlled breathing, and meditation. The seminar, which will conclude with a mindfulness practice, will be facilitated by Angela Alvarado, of the University of Miami Mind-Body Medical Work Group, who has worked with David J. Lee, director of graduate programs in the Department of Public Health Sciences, and Ashwin Mehta, the founding medical director of the Integrative Medicine Program at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and University of Miami Hospital, by offering yoga, Pranayama and meditation.
