UHealth Osher Center for Integrative Medicine Offers Mindfulness Training

MBSR Course

A new eight-week course in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) offered through the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine is now open for enrollment. The program will be offered on consecutive Saturdays, March 24 through May, 19, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the UHealth Fitness and Wellness Center (1120 N.W. 14 Street, 9th floor, Miami 33136) on the Miller School of Medicine campus. A free open house and MBSR orientation will be held on Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  The course will continue with eight weekly classes on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a daylong retreat on Saturday, May 5.

The renowned course, one of the foremost evidence-based programs in mind-body healing, was founded in 1979 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, professor emeritus of medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) and founder of The Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. The program provides intensive training in mindfulness meditation and its integration into the challenges and adventures of everyday life. The program will be co-facilitated by Gus Castellanos, M.D., and Debra Annane, M.A., M.P.H., R.Y.T., long-time practitioners who are certified/qualified through UMMS.

The MBSR course features weekly classes with guided meditation, group dialogue, and individually tailored instruction, in conjunction with daily home practices. The Ccurse fee is $400. For returning participants who previously have taken a course with either instructor the fee is $325.
