CCS Seminar Series: Systems Modeling In Biomedical Sciences

May
5
1:00 pm

The Center for Computational Science Seminar Series will present “Systems Modeling In Biomedical Sciences,” with guest speaker Igor Goryanin, professor and Henrik Kacser Chair at the University of Edinburgh, UK. The seminar will be held in the Mailman Center for Child Development, Room 3023, on Wednesday, May 5 at 1 pm.

Knowledge and data management are among current challenges in biomedical sciences. The presentation will cover how systems biology models and tools could help in planning biomedical experiments, hypothesis generation, and the decision-making process. The process, challenges, and application of human metabolic reconstruction will be discussed. COX inhibition (NSAIDs) and RTK inhibition models will be used as examples of successful applications for drug safety, novel biomarkers, and personalized combination therapies. New initiatives in systems biology, including virtual biochemical human (VBH) and the upcoming International Conference on Systems Biology (http://www.icsb2010.org.uk/), will also be discussed.
