Human Subjects Protection Workshop

May
25
12:00 pm

The Office of Research Education and Training Office presents a workshop with Jeffrey Brosco, who will speak on the subject of “Should Journals Publish Unethical Research if a Local IRB Approved It?” Discuss the role of a journal in research ethics and other related questions of research ethics on Tuesday, May 25 at 12 p.m. in the Mailman Center for Child Development, room 3023.

Recently, major journals such as The Journal of the American Medical Association and The New England Journal of Medicine have published strict rules regarding conflicts of interest and particularly the role of industry in research. More fundamental questions also arise regarding human subjects protection, yet there are no clear guidelines. This case discussion will focus on a particular episode in which the editors had concerns about human subject protection in an IRB-approved study.

Registration is available through ULearn. If you have any questions, contact the Office of Research Education and Training at 305-243-5092.
