The University of Miami Police Department is offering the National Self-Defense Institute’s two-hour S.A.F.E. class to female members of the University of Miami community free of charge on six Wednesday evenings, beginning Wednesday, May 30.

An acronym for Self-Defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange, S.A.F.E. is described as an unparalleled two-hour educational awareness and crime-victim prevention program which introduces teenaged and adult women to the physical aspects of self-defense and provides them with strategies, techniques, options, and prevention tips that may reduce their risk of exposure to violence.

In addition to this month’s class, the course will be offered again on the following Wednesdays during the summer: June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25, and August 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Mahoney-Pearson Commons 116 and 118. Participants only need to attend one session.

This course is designed exclusively for women. Men who are interested in participating in self-defense classes for males should contact [email protected].

To register for a S.A.F.E. class, visit the Eventbrite page and select the class that best fits your schedule. Please feel free to contact [email protected] with any questions.
