With women’s boxing set to debut at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, CNN anchor and special correspondent Soledad O’Brien gave a University of Miami audience a look at the changing face of the sport, screening her latest documentary, In Her Corner: Latino in America 2, at the UM Fieldhouse on September 12.

The documentary, which airs on CNN on Sunday, September 25, follows 22-year-old five-time national women’s boxing champ Marlen Esparza as she seeks to represent the United States on the Olympic team.

It was the second documentary O’Brien screened on the UM campus. In May 2010 she screened a segment of Rescued, which highlighted the plight of Haiti’s orphans, and also led a panel discussion on rebuilding the quake-ravaged nation.

During last Monday’s appearance, which was held in the UM Fieldhouse and sponsored by Multicultural Student Affairs and several other UM organizations, O’Brien talked about family values and the importance of providing support to people when they need it.
