With its $1.6 billion Momentum2 campaign still in the first year of its public phase, the University of Miami has appointed a team of successful alumni, community leaders, and entrepreneurs to spearhead fundraising priorities for its schools and colleges, athletics department, libraries, and citizens board.

“These leaders are true partners in helping each area achieve their funding priorities,” Sergio M. Gonzalez, senior vice president for University Advancement and External Affairs, said of the 24 leaders who will serve as chairs and vice chairs. “Working with our deans, faculty, and staff, they will help us engage a wider circle of individuals who want to connect with the ‘U’ and make a real difference in the life of this institution.”

Momentum2: The Breakthrough Campaign for the University of Miami aims to raise $1.6 billion by the year 2016 to fund scholarships, attract talented and ambitious researchers and scholars, build new facilities, and develop cutting-edge technology.

Momentum2 represents a vision for the future of this University and our community,” said Leonard Abess, chair of UM’s Board of Trustees, who, along with his wife, Jayne, chairs the campaign. “This dedicated group of volunteers provides leadership critical to executing this vision.”

After an initial silent phase, the campaign celebrated its public launch last February at an event attended by several hundred donors, trustees, and top UM administrators at the BankUnited Center. So far, the campaign has raised $993 million from more than 100,000 donors.
