Lunar New Year 4CORAL GABLES, Fla. (February 4, 2014) – The celebration started with colorful and well-choreographed dragon and lion dances. Then came Kung Fu demonstrations, a Sichuan Opera mask-changing performance, water sleeve dancers, and fire twirlers.

In an elaborate display of merriment that could rival any in the world, the University of Miami ushered in the Year of the Horse on Monday as hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and visitors gathered at the newly renovated UC Patio for the school’s third Lunar New Year Celebration.

Organized by the Asian American Students Association and Chinese Students and Scholars Association, the event also included a Tai Chi demonstration set to music produced by a stringed instrument called a guzheng, a piano and violin duet, Asian fusion hip hop, and exhibition tents featuring Chinese calligraphy, tea making, and face painting.
