CORAL GABLES, Fla. (January 29, 2015) – Three years after its launch, ’CaneWatch, a system that allows University of Miami faculty, staff, and students to raise concerns related to violations of policies, regulations, and other improprieties at the institution, remains one of the most effective tools for promoting high standards of ethics and integrity in the workplace.

“We want people to feel comfortable enough to raise their concerns and feel confident in being able to speak up.” said Rudolph “Rudy” Green, UM’s vice president and chief compliance officer, who heads the office of University Compliance Services. “Our goal is to foster an environment of transparency in which open, honest communications are the expectation, not the exception.”

Through ’CaneWatch, UM’s confidential reporting service, the University community can report concerns of irregularities via the Web or a toll-free hotline number, 877-415-4357. NAVEX Global, a third-party hotline provider, hosts the system, and reporting areas can include:

    • Accounting and financial matters
    • Athletics
    • Human resources
    • Information technology
    • Medical
    • Privacy, data safety, and security issues
    • Research
    • Risk and safety matters
    • Student affairs

’CaneWatch is part of UM’s overall Compliance and Accountability Program, which promotes and supports a working environment that reflects the University’s pledge to operate with integrity and comply with all laws, regulations, and policies, and when necessary, to correct misconduct. It applies to all campuses, facilities and operations, and members of the UM community, including trustees, officers, management, physicians, faculty and staff, students, and, where appropriate, vendors and contractors.
