For the sixth year in a row, University of Miami faculty and staff, family and friends will raise funds for cancer research by taking part in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge on February 20, 2016, at Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Hurricanes.

“Now is the time to step forward and join Team Hurricanes to support our own Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center,” said Pascal J. Goldschmidt, M.D., Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and CEO of UHealth.

Formerly known as the Dolphins Cycling Challenge, the 2016 event has the same initials – DCC – and the cycling rides, such as the 72-mile “Perfect Century” in honor of the Dolphins’ 1972 undefeated season, while adding a 5K walk and run to this fun event. Even if you cannot attend, you can still join Team Hurricanes by participating as a “virtual rider” to support Sylvester’s cancer research initiatives.

At the Finish Line at Sun Life Stadium, Melissa Etheridge and Sheryl Crow will perform a special concert to help celebrate DCC’s success in raising awareness and strengthening the fight against cancer.

New this year are DCC Fall Family Fests, which will be held on November 8 at Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale, and November 15 on UM’s Coral Gables campus.

To kick things off, two DCC Fall Family Fests will be held next month: November 8 at Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale, and November 15 on UM’s Coral Gables campus. Each event will have activities for the entire family, including kids’ rides in a car-free zone, a “Discovery Lab” where kids can view slides through microscopes and learn about cells from Sylvester’s research scientists, bounce houses, face painting, Dolphins Youth Program activities, and other entertainment.

So it’s time to start planning to ride, walk, run or virtually ride in the fight against cancer. This is a great opportunity to improve your personal fitness while helping everyone whose lives have been touched by cancer.
