A conference aimed at stopping human trafficking through a mix of awareness and activism will be held at the BankUnited Center on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus on Friday, September 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration for the program designed for youth, students, and young adults who wish to organize their peers for social change engagement, is free but space is limited.
The conference, “Organizing for Change: Students Taking Action Against Human Trafficking,” will focus on the major regional contributors to human trafficking—agriculture and tourism—and teach participants how to plan, strategize, and ignite an activism movement.
The International Human Trafficking Institute is convening the conference in partnership with The Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade and numerous other organizations, including the University of Miami Women’s and Gender Studies, and Project Freedom from the Miller School of Medicine. While the focus is student engagement to end human trafficking, these strategies and principles may be applied toward addressing any social injustice.
