Bring Your Valentine to Live, Love, Wellness Week at the Herbert Wellness Center

    CORAL GABLES, Fla. (February 1, 2017) – The Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center wants you to feel the love this Valentine’s Day. In celebration of American Heart Month this February, the center is hosting a week  of Live, Love, Wellness beginning Thursday, February 9 and featuring several special heart-focused events, including yoga workshops, free studio cycling in the atrium, and a Zumba dance party.

    February marks Heart Month and the Herbert Wellness Center is encouraging all members of the University of Miami community to take charge of their health. Adding daily exercise and eating right are just two steps to improving your heart health.

    “Developing a healthy routine is imperative to maintaining heart health,” says Christina WooChing, wellness program administrator. “By eating smart, engaging in regular activity, and cultivating a well-balanced lifestyle of wellness, you are already on your way to changing your health and your life.”

    The schedule for Live, Love, Wellness week is as follows:

    Partner Yoga Workshop: Thursday, February, 9, 7 – 9 p.m.
    Grab a partner and join together to experience a deeper impact and understanding of yoga practice. The workshop, open to members and non-members, costs $15 for UM yoga pass holders, $25 for members, and $35 for non-members.

    Partner Workout of the Day: Thursday, February 9
    Whether you’re with a significant other or just a best friend, two can participate in the partner workout of the day in the fitness room together. The partner workout is a full-body workout designed for all fitness levels.

    Cupid Shuffle Zumba Dance Party: Friday, February 10, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
    Dance into the weekend at the Cupid Shuffle Zumba Dance Party in Multipurpose Room B. Show off your best moves and get your heart rate up while having a blast at this free dance event.

    Heart Opening Yoga Workshop: Sunday, February 12, 2 – 4 p.m.
    Heart Opening explores the ways we express love and compassion toward one another and ourselves. After establishing a solid and safe yoga base, participants will use that stability to open through the shoulders, and chest and work into foundational back-bending poses. The workshop, open to members and non-members, costs $15 for UM yoga pass holders, $25 for members, and $35 for non-members.

    Race Your Heart Out Studio Cycling: Monday, February 13, 6:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 7:15 p.m.
    Get ready to work up a sweat at Race Your Heart Out, taking place in the Herbert Wellness Center Atrium. The theme: your favorite hot couples/break-ups playlist. These cycling classes are free and open to members only; priority will be given to current cycling pass holders. All participants will receive an exclusive event towel.

    Partner Workout of the Day: Monday, February 13
    Meet your partner again or bring someone new to the second partner workout of the day. Whether you’re with a significant other or just a best friend, two can participate in the partner workout of the day in the fitness room. The partner workout is a full-body workout designed for all fitness levels.

    Fall in Love with U: Tuesday, February 14, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    All day on Valentine’s Day, love will be in the air at the Herbert Wellness Center. Stop by the atrium for free coffee from the Courtside Eatery, Kind Bar samples, infused water, Jenga, open meditation, and blood pressure education. Stick around for live jazz music and check out the COPE and ’Canes Care for ’Canes tables.

    UMove Zumba: Wednesday, February 15, 12 p.m.
    Get your blood pumping with a high-energy Zumba class. Grab a group of friends and dance through your midday slump at the Lakeview Stage at noon. Can’t catch this class? The UMove program is offering Zumba classes at the Lakeview Stage on Wednesdays, March 22 and April 19.
