(June 14, 2016)— The University of Miami’s Patricia and Harold Toppel Career Center is hosting the fourth annual Hire-A-Cane Academy recruiter conference on Thursday and Friday, July 7 and 8. The two-day event features workshops, dedicated time with current UM students to strategically plan for the upcoming recruiting cycle, and a panel comprised of industry experts, including Christian Garcia, associate dean and executive director of the Toppel Career Center; Marie Artim, vice president of Talent Acquisition at Enterprise Holdings; and Robert Shindell, president and CEO of Intern Bridge.

The Toppel Career Center began hosting the academy to provide recruiters an opportunity to meet, collaborate, and learn from each other’s best practices through an engaging series of keynote speakers, one-on-one consulting meetings, round-robin presentations and student panels. Past participants include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Citrix Systems, the Nielsen Company, Bloomingdale’s, GEICO, General Mills, Aldi Inc., Group M, and others.

“The University of Miami attracts high caliber students who go on to play important roles in the careers they pursue, and recruiters understand the value in that kind of talent,” said Garcia.  “We created Hire-A-Cane Academy to give employers insight into the minds and motivations of these unique students. After all, the talent they recruit now represents the future of their company.”

This year’s conference will focus heavily on creating space for recruiters to connect personally with top professionals in the career services/talent acquisition fields. Garcia is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) while also leading the Toppel Career Center, one of the country’s most innovative and dynamic career centers.

Artim is a renowned expert in the recruiting realm, with more than 15 years’ experience in talent acquisition at Enterprise Holdings, and served as president of NACE in 2011.

Shindell has an illustrious career in public, private, and higher education sectors and currently serves at the president and CEO for Intern Bridge, Inc., the nation’s premier recruiting consulting and research firm.
