Mini ’Canes Recreational Sports Camp Honored for Innovative Program

Mini ’Canes Recreational Sports Camp’s SuperLife program teaches youngsters about good habits that can lead to a “super life.”

A University of Miami children’s program inspired by popular comic book superheroes has received a 2012 Best of the Best Award from a leading print and online magazine dedicated to fitness professionals.

SuperLife, a program in UM’s Mini ’Canes Recreational Sports Camp, is the winner of Club Industry’s 2012 Best Children’s Program. Representatives from UM’s Department of Wellness and Recreation picked up the award on October 11 in Las Vegas at the Club Industry Conference and Exposition for Fitness Business Professionals. Director of Inclusion Programs Wins Advocate of the Year Award

Sophia Galvin delivers remarks at the Southern Florida Minority Supplier Development Council’s 37th Annual Awards Gala, where she received the Advocate of the Year Award.

Sophia Galvin, director of inclusion programs in the University of Miami’s Office of Workforce Engagement and Development, has received the Advocate of the Year Award from the Southern Florida Minority Supplier Development Council (SFMSDC).

Galvin, who was nominated for the award by one of the University’s female-owned business vendors, received the honor at the council’s 37th Annual Awards Gala at Jungle Island in September, beating out nominees from Blue Cross Blue Shield and Office Depot. Read the full story
