The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, in conjunction with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, is hosting a free policy forum on quality-of-life and palliative care issues for people facing serious and chronic illnesses on Thursday, October 9, at 9:30 a.m. at Sylvester, 1475 N.W. 12th Avenue, Miami.
Featured speakers include W. Jarrard Goodwin, Sylvester’s chief medical officer; Ashwin Mehta, founding medical director of the Integrative Medicine Program at Sylvester; and state Senators Rudy Garcia and Eleanor Sobel, an energetic and inspiring patient advocate.
A growing field of medicine, palliative care uses a coordinated approach to treat the person as well as the disease. It brings together trained specialists in a team-based approach to manage pain and other symptoms, explore treatment options, and improve quality of life.
The forum is free and open to the public, but RSVP is requested. RSVP online now at www.acscan.org/miamiforum and encourage your friends, family, and coworkers to do the same.
