CORAL GABLES, Fla. (January 20, 2015)—In the spirit of the new year, the Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center is introducing two new instructional classes open to members and non-members of the facility: Mindful Yoga and Aqua Zumba. In addition, Monday, January 25 begins a free week of all dance, martial arts, tennis, and adult aquatics classes, including the new Zumba and yoga classes, which are available to both members and non-members. Registration is not required for the free class but spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mindful yoga is a formal practice that slowly goes through a sequence of Hatha yoga postures with an emphasis on mindfulness and approaching one’s limits with gentleness. The class, open to all levels, includes a short period of meditation and ends with body scanning.

Take the work out of workout with Aqua Zumba, a blend of the Zumba philosophy and water resistance with a mix of low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning fitness party.

“We took two of our most popular classes, yoga and Zumba, and added a little twist to each,” says Michelle Kasparian, assistant director of group exercise and community classes at the Herbert Wellness Center.

Registration for these classes is available to both members and non-members and can be completed online or by calling the sales office at 305-284-5433 Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is now open for Spring Session 1 classes and closes January 31.

The Herbert Wellness Center also offers youth aquatics classes available to members and non-members. Registration for these classes closes on Monday, January 25.

The Herbert Wellness Center is celebrating 20 years of defining wellness for the University of Miami community and will honor its anniversary with several special programs and events throughout the year.
