    Cooking Skills Class

A session in the Herbert Wellness Center’s popular cooking skills series of classes.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (March 2, 2016) – Whether you are a culinary aficionado or looking to brush up on your cooking skills, the Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center’s new cooking skills series will teach you to be the master in the kitchen.

Led by award-winning cookbook author, nutritionist, and culinary instructor Robyn Webb, the second half of the skills series, open to the South Florida community, features two back-to-back weekend sessions that teach time-saving techniques and basic cooking skills designed to make simple, easy meals quickly.

The next session in the series, “Perfect Poultry,” is scheduled for Saturday, March 19 and will cover techniques to make perfect chicken dishes everyone will love. The final session, “Hold The Meat,” will be held Saturday, March 26, and will include everything you need to know to make zesty and savory vegetarian dishes with beans, grains, and other vegetables. Both classes begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be held in the Herbert Wellness Center’s instructional kitchen.

After participating in the first half of the series, Sarah Greenblatt, a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, now has the confidence and skills to prepare meals that are delicious and healthy.

“What I love about [Robyn Webb’s] philosophy of cooking is that the food is approachable—you don’t need special equipment or ingredients to put together a great meal,” said Greenblatt. “She seamlessly incorporated cooking tricks, food science, and nutrition in a way that kept me engaged.”

Greenblatt’s biggest challenge to cooking has always been time. She struggled to have the right ingredients ready and the energy to prepare dinner after a long day at work. But Webb’s flexible approach to cooking taught her basic recipes that can be adapted to her tastes and what is in her fridge.

“Most importantly, the techniques I learned just in one class have helped me prepare fantastic meals after work, in less time than it would take to order takeout,” said Greenblatt.

Make cooking fun again with easy meals that are delectably good for you. The second half of the series costs $60 per person, but classes can be purchased individually at a prorated price.
