David Richstone, the audit director for medical audits in the Office of Audit and Advisory Services, has been elected chair of the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors (AHIA) after serving for two years on the organization’s Board of Directors. The AHIA is the premier professional association for healthcare internal auditors with 1,595 members nationwide.
“David has been very active in AHIA for the last 20 years, both locally and nationally,” said Blanca Malagon, chief audit executive in the Office of Audit and Advisory Services. “This appointment evidences his commitment to the healthcare internal auditing profession.”
Richstone, who brought more than 15 years of healthcare audit experience to UM when he joined the University in 2009, oversees internal audits relating to the Miller School of Medicine and UHealth–University of Miami Health System enterprise. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in finance and accounting and a Master of Business Administration in accounting. He is also a certified public accountant and a certified internal auditor and holds a certification in Risk Management Assurance.
