MIAMI, Fla. (March 10, 2016)—Leaders of University of Miami’s Information Technology division were among the nationally renowned speakers and thought leaders chosen to present at the 2016 HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Annual Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas earlier this month.

David Seo, M.D., associate vice president of IT for clinical applications and chief medical informatics officer for UHealth — the University of Miami Health System, co-presented the educational session, “Predictive Analytics Drives Population Health Management.” Dawn Cram, manager of Application Systems Development – Enterprise Imaging, presented “Encounters-Based Photographic Imaging in Healthcare.”

“It was an honor to present on behalf of the University of Miami and our health system,” Seo said. “Here, we have developed and implemented a flexible technology infrastructure which efficiently identifies and communicates information about patients at risk for chronic disease. During my session, it was important to demonstrate the value in delivering risk-stratified information to the point of care, as well as to research professionals.”

Seo also emphasized the need to identify strategies for creating and implementing an adaptable technology platform that enables cost-effective population health management. “For the past two years, we have worked with Lockheed Martin to further leverage healthcare technology. Our partnership is improving how we integrate patient data with predictive analytics to provide proactive patient care and improve outcomes,” he said.

In her education session, Cram explored the University of Miami’s journey in designing and implementing an industry-changing imaging workflow featuring an encounters-based mobile capture app, enterprise image archive, and viewing solution.

“Our experiences developing and deploying new methods of image capture and systems integration has given us a unique perspective on how to address the challenges of encounters-based photographic imaging in healthcare,” said Cram. “Sharing what we have done with others working in enterprise imaging, and discussing the challenges we faced, will hopefully advance the industry even further.”

Seo and Cram’s presentations were selected through a highly competitive and rigorous peer-review process. They were part of the HIMSS General Education Sessions which focused on key topics, including population health, patient engagement, and clinical and business intelligence.
