Learn to Save Lives at the Herbert Wellness Center’s Emergency Care Courses

    CORAL GABLES, Fla. (March 16, 2016) — Registration is now open for the final set of emergency care courses—Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers, First Aid Certification, and CPR & AED Certificationoffered by the Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center this semester.

    “Our emergency care courses enhance participants’ emergency response skills,” said Ashley Falcon, assistant director of wellness at the Herbert Wellness Center. “As more ’Canes become certified, our campus becomes safer.”

    Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers

    Are you working toward being a health care provider such as EMS personnel, physician assistant, doctor, dentist, nurse, or respiratory therapist who must have a credential documenting successful completion of a CPR course? The next Basic Life Support (BSL) for Health Care Providers (HCP) is on Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m. The course will cover adult and pediatric CPR and will include two rescuer scenarios and training on the use of the bag mask. Also covered are foreign-body airway obstruction and AED.

    First Aid Certification

    If you are ready to learn how to respond to common first aid emergencies, including burns, cuts, and head, neck, and back injuries, sign up for the next First Aid Certification course on Saturday, March 26 at 1:30 p.m. This American Red Cross course teaches you how to manage illnesses and injuries in the first few minutes before professional help arrives.

    CPR & AED Certification

    Learn how to respond to cardiac breathing emergencies in adults and children, including how to use automated external defibrillators (AED), at the next CPR and AED Certification course on Friday, April 1 at 6 p.m. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a two-year certification from the American Red Cross.

The last First Aid Certification course for the spring semester is on Friday, April 8, and the final two BSL for HCP courses are on Saturday, April 2 and Friday, April 15.
