The Office of Emergency Management will present Active Shooter Response Training (ASRT) from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23 in the training classroom on the 1st floor of the Facilities Administration building, 1535 Levante Avenue. The hour-long presentation will incorporate the latest Department of Homeland Security guidance on best practice responses for those who encounter active shooter situations. As an extra incentive, eligible attendees who are enrolled in the Well ’Canes program will receive 150 points.
The ASRT class covers awareness, avoidance, and appropriate actions. Expert instructors will discuss how to respond, what to look for, and how to prepare to survive dangerous situations, such as an active-shooter event. They also will discuss both law enforcement’s and the University’s response to various potentially dangerous situations. Topics include the Emergency Notification Network (ENN) Alerts, interacting with first responders, personal preparedness, and other initiatives of the University designed to keep our students, staff, and faculty as safe as possible.
To receive Well ’Canes points, attendees must sign a Well ’Canes attendance roster with their C number at the end of the class. Attendance is limited to the first 20 people who sign up for the class on ULearn.
