TJ is a mad bastard, and his estranged 13-year-old son, Bullet, is on the fast track to becoming one, too. After being turned away from his mother’s house, TJ sets off across the country to the Kimberly region of northwestern Australia to make things right with his son. Grandpa Tex has lived a tough life and now, as a local cop, he wants to change things for the men in his community. Crosscutting among three generations, Mad Bastards is a raw look at the transformational journey to becoming a man. Developed with Aboriginal communities and featuring a local cast, Mad Bastards draws on the rich storytelling traditions of indigenous life. Using music from legendary Broome musicians the Pigram Brothers, the film poetically fuses the themes of violence, healing, and family. The film will screen on Friday, July 1 at 9 p.m.; Saturday, July 2 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, July 3 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Admission is $7 for seniors, University of Miami alumni, faculty, non UM-students, and staff. General admission is $9. Free for UM students. To purchase tickets online or for more information, visit www.cosfordcinema.com or call 305-284-4861.
