Improve your Spanish in UM’s three-day or seven-day intensive Spanish programs. These immersion-style Spanish language programs can be taken full-time for a long weekend or over a full week. For the three-day program, individuals may choose from two tracks for beginners: Spanish for Business or Spanish for Healthcare Professionals. The seven-day program is for all levels of learners. Attendees boost their Spanish-language skills dramatically in just seven days and can enjoy the process at the same time.

The three-day mini-immersion classes meet from Friday, December 10 through Sunday, December 12 on the Coral Gables campus. The seven-day classes meet daily from Saturday, January 8 through Friday, January 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Koubek Center in Little Havana. There are a limited number of seats for tuition-remission students in these classes; UM employees and their dependents are eligible to receive a 15 percent discount on tuition. The Intensive Language Institute will once again offer a free, noncredit English course for International Teaching Assistants (ITAs), especially for those who have not yet met the English proficiency requirements. This course is an opportunity for ITAs in your department to get more practice with pronunciation, fluency, and grammar, along with the presentation and discourse skills that are vital to their success in the classroom.

The course is open to qualifying ITAs who have not achieved a score of 55 on the SPEAK test, have not passed the subsequent videotaped teaching presentation test, or wish to improve their spoken English skills in order to better perform in a position of classroom or lab instruction and contact with undergraduate students.
