Psychiatry Grand Rounds: Neuromodulation Therapies for Depression: 2012 and Beyond

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences will host grand rounds on Wednesday, April 4 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Mailman Center for Child Development, eighth-floor auditorium. Linda Carpenter, associate professor and chief of the Mood Disorders Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University School of Medicine and director of the Neuromodulation Clinic at Butler Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, will present “Neuromodulation Therapies for Depression: 2012 and Beyond.” The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This activity will provide 1.50 CEs to psychologists, social workers, and nurses who attend.

Miami Clinical and Translational Science Seminar Series: Nanotechnology in Clinical and Translational Research

The Miami Clinical and Translational Science Seminar Series continues on Wednesday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mailman Center for Child Development, eighth-floor auditorium. Ram H. Datar, associate professor of pathology and biochemistry and molecular biology, will present “Nanotechnology in Clinical and Translational Research.”

The presentation will address the role that microscale and nanoscale technologies play in clinical translational research, with some specific examples from Datar’s own research. It will also introduce the nascent Biomedical Nanotechnology Institute at the University of Miami (BioNIUM) to the audience.

Seventh Annual Salon des Refuses Exhibition

The College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History presents the seventh annual “Salon des Refuses” exhibition from April 2-27 at the CAS Gallery, 1210 Stanford Drive, on the Coral Gables campus.

Named after the celebrated Salon des Refusés exhibition of 1863 in Paris, in which the Impressionists exhibited their revolutionary new paintings that had been “refused” by the French Academy, the UM exhibition will showcase student works that were entered in the annual Juried Student Competition but not accepted.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, April 6 at 5 p.m. in conjunction with the art and art history department’s annual barbeque.

The opening reception for the Juried Student Exhibition will be held at the Lowe Art Museum on Friday, April 13.
