Stress Management and Relaxation Training

Stressors affect us in many facets of our lives. This seminar, offered by the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), provides participants with an understanding of stress and the ways it can be managed to help optimize health. The course will help you develop a proactive response by increasing your awareness of factors that influence stress levels, troubleshooting the difficulties encountered when confronting stressors, and reviewing and practicing effective stress management (relaxation) techniques.

Coral Gables campus: Tuesday, August 10 from 12 to 1 pm in the McArthur Engineering Annex, Room 202.

Miller School campus: Wednesday, August 11 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Medical Wellness Center classroom, ninth floor.

Rosenstiel School campus: Thursday, August 12 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Library, Map and Chart room.

Nursing Lunch and Learn Series: Domestic Violence

The Faculty and Staff Assistance, in conjunction with the Professional Development and Training Office, is conducting a free seminar on Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence. Participants will receive one hour of continuing education credit, which can be applied towards their professional domestic violence/intimate partner violence coursework requirements. This will be a brown bag lunch-and-learn session.

At the end of this lecture, participants will be able to describe the prevalence of domestic violence and how it affects people; screen patients for domestic violence history; respond to patients who are abused or abusers; adhere to reporting, documentation, and legal requirements; and provide helpful resources. The course is ideal for nurses, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, and psychologists.

The seminar will be held at the Miller School of Medicine campus, Dominion Parking Garage, Suite 155, on Thursday, August 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

To attend this brown bag lunch-and-learn session you must register via ULearn. Participants must submit their license information to receive 1.0 contact hour towards renewal. Participants arriving more than five minutes late are not eligible to receive contact hours credit.

Neurological Surgery Grand Rounds: Handoffs and Patient Safety

Anesthesiology Grand Rounds: Anesthesia for Fetoscopic Surgery

The Department of Anesthesiology will host grand rounds on Thursday, August 12 from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, third-floor auditorium. Bruce Saltzman, assistant professor of anesthesiology at the Miller School of Medicine, will present “Anesthesia for Fetoscopic Surgery.” This educational activity is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.
