The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology will host a special seminar on Thursday, August 26 at 12 p.m. in the Gautier Building, Room 118. Patrizia Pasini, research scientist in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky, will present “Whole Cells as Sensing Systems in Biomedical and Environmental Analysis.”

The Cuban Heritage Collection Graduate Fellows Colloquium will be held on Thursday, August 26 at 2:30 p.m. in the Elena Díaz Versón Amos Conference Room of the Roberto C. Goizueta Pavilion in the Richter Library, second floor. The colloquium will feature Katerina Seligmann, comparative literature, Brown University, presenting “Mapping the Intellectual Caribbean,” and Martin Tsang, global and sociocultural studies, Florida International University, presenting “Afro-Chinese Identity and Religion in Cuba.” Both are recipients of Cuban Heritage Collection Graduate Fellowships in the pre-prospectus category.
The fellowships provide assistance to graduate students who wish to use the research resources available in the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami. The goal of these fellowships is to engage emerging scholars with the materials available in the collection and thus contribute to the larger body of scholarship in Cuban, hemispheric, and international studies. The 2010 CHC Graduate Fellowships are generously funded by The Goizueta Foundation.
