Higher education will never be the same when rowdy and rich senior Thornton Melon (Rodney Dangerfield) goes back to school to help his college misfit son. Melon lends some fatherly support by enrolling as a fellow freshman, but when he ticks off his professor he must hit the books or go back to being the world’s wealthiest dropout. Midnight movie at the Cosford: ‘Roadhouse’

Considered by many to be one of the greatest B-movies of all time, Roadhouse stars Patrick Swayze delivering no-holds-barred action that pushes the envelope for high-octane thrills. Swayze is Dalton, a legendary bouncer who comes to Jasper, Missouri, for a special purpose: to restore order at the notorious Double Deuce bar. In one spectacular fight after another, Dalton rids the bar of thugs and henchmen. But when he runs afoul of a ruthless crime boss who controls the town, the stage is set for a blistering showdown that’ll leave only one man standing. Three 30-something friends with woman troubles (Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, and Vince Vaughn) decide to form a fraternity to save one of them from losing his house, which the nearby college is trying to claim for academic purposes. The new fraternity quickly brings the friends back to the reckless, feckless days of beer bongs and hot chicks, and they throw themselves into gathering frat pledges of all ages. Also featuring Jeremy Piven and Juliette Lewis, with cameos by Snoop Dog, Andy Dick, and others. Project SHARE seminar: HIV Does Not Cause AIDS: Why We Should Care about AIDS Denialism

Researchers and their designated HIV planner or policymaker are invited to attend the upcoming Project SHARE (Sharing HIV/AIDS Research Efforts) seminar, “HIV Does Not Cause AIDS: Why We Should Care about AIDS Denialism.” Project SHARE represents a collaborative effort between the NIDA-funded University of Miami Developmental Center for AIDS Research (D-CFAR), the Miami-Dade County Health Department, and the Broward County Health Department. Through a series of seminars, the initiative aims to strengthen the linkages between HIV/AIDS researchers and practitioners within the South Florida community.

The upcoming Project SHARE seminar will be facilitated by Seth Kalichman, who recently published the book Denying AIDS: Conspiracy Theories, Pseudoscience, and Human Tragedy, the royalties from which are donated to buy HIV medications in Africa. Kalichman is a professor of social psychology at the University of Connecticut and the editor in chief of the journal AIDS and Behavior. The seminar will be held on Friday, August 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gordon Auditorium on the first floor of the Clinical Research Building, 1120 NW 14th Street, Miami. The event is free of charge, and lunch will be served. Seating is strictly limited to 100. Seats will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
