SEEDS to host workshop with author and scientist Ellen Daniell

Scientists and Engineers Expanding Diversity and Success (SEEDS) will host a half-day workshop with Ellen Daniell, writer, consultant, and former assistant professor of molecular biology at the University of California, Berkeley, on Tuesday, February 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lois Pope LIFE Center auditorium.

For more than 30 years, Daniell has been part of a professional problem-solving group of women (and some men) who have attained extraordinary distinction in various scientific fields. The group meets every other week to help one another with the professional and personal challenges of managing highly competitive careers and fulfilling lives. Daniell is author of Every Other Thursday: Stories and Strategies from Successful Women Scientists.

As part of the half-day workshop, titled “Strategies from a Professional Problem-Solving Group,” Daniell will give a talk, hold a book-signing session, and conduct two small breakout sessions to practice the techniques discussed in her talk. Psychiatry Grand Rounds: Heartache and Heartbreak: The Remarkable Relationship Between Depression and Heart Disease

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences will host grand rounds on Wednesday, February 2 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in the Mailman Center for Child Development, eighth-floor auditorium. Charles B. Nemeroff, Miller Professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, will present “Heartache and Heartbreak: The Remarkable Relationship Between Depression and Heart Disease.” The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This activity will provide 1.50 CE to psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors who attend.
