University of Miami School Education Dean Isaac Prilleltensky has been recognized for his leadership in education by both a well-known local group and a prominent national professional organization.
Prilleltensky is the recipient of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) John Kalafat Applied Psychology’s Practitioner Award as well as the first ever Education Catalyst Award from the Miami-based Human Services Coalition (HSC). The Education Catalyst Award honors someone that has been a change agent in the education field. Prilleltensky will receive the award on Thursday, December 9 at 6 p.m. at 800 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. During the event, the HSC organization will celebrate the launch of its new name, Catalyst Miami.
The Kalafat Practitioner Award honors an individual who exemplifies the characteristics of a mentor, teacher, and advocate, and is passionate about making the benefits of community accessible to all. The award will be presented to Prilleltensky in June during the APA Division 27 conference in Chicago. The award is named for a fellow of the Society for Community Research and Action of the American Psychological Association, John Kalafat, whose life work integrated the research and principles of community psychology with their practical applications.
