12th Annual HOPE Auction is this Friday

The School of Law’s HOPE Public Interest Resource Center will hold its 12th Annual Hope Auction on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. at the Lowe Art Museum. Proceeds support Summer HOPE Fellows. Auction items range from vacation getaways to donated items guaranteed to delight and surprise.

University Advancement’s Halloween Dessert Party to benefit United Way

Calling all goblins, ghouls, and ghosts. University Advancement’s Halloween Dessert Party will offer first-, second-, and third-place prizes for the best costumes, as well as door prizes that range from Miami Dolphins and UM men’s basketball tickets to a bike and a Mayfair Hotel and Spa stay, plus more. The event takes place on Friday, October 29 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Gables One Tower, 1320 S. Dixie Highway, Suite 300. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at Gables One, Suite 300, with all the proceeds benefiting the United Way.

School of Law to host mock admissions panel

The University of Miami School of Law will host a mock admissions panel with representatives from the UM, Florida International University, and George Washington University law schools in attendance. The panel, to be held Thursday, October 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the UM School of Law, will give prospective law students the opportunity to learn about the application process, what matters most to faculty and admissions officers when they review applications, and how subtle differences in the way information is presented can be critical in the review process. Reinventing Real Estate Development Lecture Series

The School of Architecture’s Master in Real Estate Development + Urbanism program presents the Reinventing Real Estate Development Lecture Series this fall with Developer-in-Residence Frank Starkey. Starkey co-founded Longleaf, a 568-acre, TND (Traditional Neighborhood Development) 25 miles northwest of Tampa. Construction began in 1998 and the project is half complete, with over 400 homes, 50,000 square feet of commercial space, a preschool, elementary school, and a church. Starkey has been involved in many aspects of development: planning, entitlement, code writing and implementation, engineering, permitting, construction, product development, marketing, and communicating with residents. He will present “A New Normal for Development: How Big Forces will Change What We Build and How” on Wednesday, October 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center, Glasgow Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Neurological Surgery/Neurology Joint CME Grand Rounds: Collateral Perfusion in Acute Ischemic Stroke

The Departments of Neurological Surgery and Neurology will host a joint grand rounds session on Thursday, October 28 from 8 to 9 a.m. in the Lois Pope LIFE Center, seventh-floor auditorium. David Liebeskind, associate neurology director of the UCLA Stroke Center, neurology director of the UCLA Stroke Imaging Program, and co-medical director and co-technical director of the Cerebral Blood Flow Laboratory, will present “Collateral Perfusion in Acute Ischemic Stroke.” The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
