Trash Humpers follows a small group of elderly “Peeping Toms” through the shadows and margins of an unfamiliar world, inhabited by broken dreams and beyond the limits of morality, that crashes against a torn and frayed America. As writer/director Harmony Korine describes the film: “When I was a child there was a small group of elderly people who would hang out in the back alleys and under bridges by my house. They always seemed to be getting drunk and dancing. One night I looked out my bedroom window and saw a group of them humping trashcans and laughing. It sounded like they were speaking a strange invented language. This is a movie about them.” The film screens on Friday, October 1 at midnight. Admission is $6 for seniors, University of Miami alumni, faculty, non UM-students, and staff. General admission is $8. Cash only. Free for UM students. In Persian with English subtitles. The film screens on Friday, October 1 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, October 2 at 6 p.m.; and Sunday, October 3 at 4 p.m. Admission is $6 for seniors, University of Miami alumni, faculty, non UM-students, and staff; general admission is $8. Soul Kitchen is a delicious, free spirited story of food, friends, and rock & roll, and a smash with audiences at the Toronto and Tribeca film festivals. The film centers on Zinos, a likable but hopelessly disorganized restaurateur whose cafe is second home to a motley crew of lovable eccentrics. When his girlfriend, Nadine, moves to Shanghai, a love-sick Zinos decides to fly after her, leaving his restaurant in the hands of his unreliable ex-con brother. The mayhem that follows is a hilariously entertaining story of self-realization, set to an irresistibly soulful soundtrack. German and Greek (a few words and songs) with English subtitles. The film screens on Friday, October 1 at 9 p.m.; Saturday, October 2 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, October 3 at 6 p.m. Admission is $6 for seniors, University of Miami alumni, faculty, non UM-students, and staff. General admission is $8. Cash only. Free for UM students. For more information, visit www.cosfordcinema.com or call 305-284-4861.
