The School of Education will host two CPR and AED certification classes on the Coral Gables campus, with proceeds benefiting the United Way. The classes are a great way to support the United Way Campaign while learning important lifesaving skills at the same time. This is a onetime course for both new CPR certifications and renewals. Both courses will be taught with American Heart Association guidelines and will highlight the new procedures to be taught beginning next year.

The Developmental Center for AIDS Research (DCFAR) will host a seminar on Tuesday, October 19 at 12 p.m. in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, third-floor auditorium. Barbara L. The Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics and John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics will host a seminar by Carlos T. Moraes, professor in the Department of Neurology at the Miller School of Medicine. The Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies, along with the Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community Center’s 30th Annual Jewish Book Festival and University of Miami Hillel, will present the Tenth Annual Robert Russell Lecture by Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, who will speak on “Hillel: If Not Now, When?”
In his latest book, Rabbi Telushkin looks at Judaism’s most famous Talmudic sage whose ethical teachings have as much relevancy today as when they were first offered about 2,000 years ago. He is author of Heaven’s Witness, Jewish Humor, The Golden Land, Jewish Literacy, Jewish Values, Jewish Wisdom, and A Code of Jewish Ethics, Vols. I and II.
The event takes place on Tuesday, October 19 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) at The Miller Center Auditorium, 105 Merrick Building. This lecture is open to the public. The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) offers this 30-minute training session for those interested in building their capacity to consciously activate their body’s parasympathetic response. The parasympathetic (or relaxation) response is at the heart of all stress management techniques, and its use is directly correlated with the promotion of optimal health. A University of Miami FSAP professional will facilitate the session.
