Drawing upon the knowledge and skills that made her the longest-serving secretary of health and human services in U.S. history, President Donna E. Shalala will deliver a timely lecture to City of Coral Gables residents on health care reform on Thursday, February 3, in Storer Auditorium at 6:30 p.m., with a reception beginning at 6 p.m.
The Affordable Care Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010, has generated questions among many citizens who don’t understand what the bill means for them. This lecture will offer insight into our nation’s progress toward equitable health and social policy.
In presenting “Health Care Reform: An Idea Whose Time Has Come,” President Shalala will kick off the Collegetown Faculty Lecture Series, a new forum in which UM faculty experts in various disciplines engage the community in intellectual discourse and enrich their knowledge on timely topics. The Collegetown Faculty Lecture series, presented by the University of Miami and the City of Coral Gables, is free and open to the public, including members of the UM community, and is part of the recently passed Development Agreement.
