Faculty Learning Community Kick-Off Panel to be held January 31

The 2011 Faculty Learning Community Kick-Off Panel will be held on Monday, January 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Whitten University Center, Flamingo Ballroom, second floor. Lunch will be served.

The event marks the start of the third Faculty Learning Community. Attendees will hear from faculty across several disciplines who are using ICT approaches in their teaching. Panelists will discuss examples of creative strategies they are using to enhance students’ ICT literacy.

According to the National Higher Education Information and Communication Technology Initiative, 2004, “ICT literacy is the ability to appropriately use digital technology, communication tools, and/or networks to solve information problems in order to function in an information society. This includes having the ability to use technology as a tool to research, organize, and communicate information and having a fundamental understanding of the ethical/legal issues surrounding accessing and using information.”

Verdi’s tragic tale of courtesan Violetty Valery is brought to life on the stage of London’s Royal Opera House. La Traviata (or “the Fallen Woman”) stars beloved American soprano Renée Fleming in the title role, with tenor Joseph Calleja as her lover, Alfredo, and bass Thomas Hampson as Germont. In Italian with English subtitles. The opera screens on Saturday, January 29 at 12 p.m.; Sunday, January 30 at 12:30 p.m.; and Monday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this presentation are $22 for general admission and $18 discount. Rosenfeld, John and Elizabeth Harris Professor of Neurology and chief of the Division of Neuro-Oncology at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, on Monday, January 31 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sylvester, Conference Room 1301. Sponsor-Investigator Responsibilities course

Learn more about sponsor-investigator responsibilities on Monday, January 31 at 2 p.m. at Dominion Towers, 12th-floor large conference room. The Sponsor-Investigator Responsibilities class will provide an outline of the dual responsibilities of being a sponsor-investigator as well as explain how to implement necessary processes to maintain and achieve compliance with the Food and Drug Administration. The Good Clinical Practices class is a prerequisite to this course. DMAS/FRS for Beginners

DMAS/FRS for Beginners will help new DMAS users better understand the University’s financial system and the basic terms and concepts of FRS. The class is also a useful refresher for existing users who may not have had the benefit of training from the Controller’s Office.
