HurricaneSports.com to Bring Live Wall-to-Wall Signing Day Coverage

With what is projected to be one of the best signing classes in the country, the University of Miami will again provide live video coverage and social media fan interaction on National Signing Day. The coverage will begin early on the morning of Wednesday, February 1. From the moment the first National Letter of Intent (NLI) comes through the fax machine, HurricaneSports.com will have exclusive minute-by-minute coverage of one of the most anticipated days of the off-season.

The video team on HurricaneSports.com will have a live breaking-news feed open all day with longtime Miami radio personalities Don Bailey Jr. and Joe Zagacki. As soon as an NLI is officially approved, Bailey and Zagacki will interview the assistant coach who recruited the student-athlete as well as the position coach who will coach him.

HurricaneSports.com’s Amy Audibert will be the point person on bonus coverage on the ’Canes All Access UStream feed that will provide social media engagement, including live video chats with UM assistant coaches, football players, and more.

The all-day coverage will build up to head coach Al Golden’s first comments on the signing class during his press conference at 4 p.m.

After what promises to be a successful signing day, Miami will host a signing day party at the BankUnited Center in the multipurpose room. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. and will run until 8 p.m. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Golden and his staff will introduce fans to the 2012 signing class, including video of each member. The event is free to Hurricane Club members and admission is $1 for fans who are not members of the Hurricane Club.

Fans who attend the Signing Day party will be able to purchase tickets for the ’Canes men’s basketball game vs. Maryland that evening at 8 p.m. for only $5.

Miami Clinical and Translational Science Seminar Series: Kidney Service: Maintaining Filter Function

The Miami Clinical and Translational Science Seminar Series continues on Wednesday, February 1 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mailman Center for Child Development, eighth-floor auditorium. Jochen Reiser, professor of medicine, anatomy, and cell biology, vice chair for research in the Department of Medicine, chief of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, and director of the Peggy and Harold Katz Family Drug Discovery Institute, will present “Kidney Service: Maintaining Filter Function.” Reiser will review novel pathomechanisms for proteinuric renal disease, novel principles of kidney filter function, and ways to improve kidney health through targeting of podocytes. Egyptian Ambassador Sameh Shoukry to Lecture at UM

Sameh Shoukry, Egypt’s Ambassador to the United States since 2008, will present a lecture titled “Egypt’s Democracy and Arab Spring” on Wednesday, February 1 at 5 p.m. at Bill Cosford Cinema, Memorial Building, second floor, on the Coral Gables campus. The lecture is free and open to the UM community.

Ambassador Shoukry previously served as Egypt’s Ambassador to Austria as well as Egypt’s permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva and as permanent representative to the International Organizations in Vienna. He specializes in disarmament and non-proliferation issues.

Shoukry’s lecture will be followed by an interview by Middle Eastern Studies expert Bradford R. McGuinn. Senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Miami, McGuinn teaches courses on regional security dealing with the Middle East and Africa. He teaches also in the areas of political violence and civil-military relations and has published articles and book chapters on a range of security issues.
