The Developmental Center for AIDS Research will host grand rounds on Tuesday, February 7 at 12 p.m. in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, third-floor auditorium. Maria T. Acclaimed Singer-Songwriter Craig Carothers to Give Master Class, Concert

The Frost School of Music presents singer-songwriter Craig Carothers as part of the 2011-2012 Stamps Family Distinguished Visitors Series. Carothers will give a free master class titled “Of the Journey and the Songs: Musings of a Modern American Songwriter” on Tuesday, February 7 at 2 p.m. at Clarke Recital Hall in the Weeks Center for Recording and Performance. To reserve a free ticket, call 305-284-4940. Carothers also will perform on Thursday, February 9 at 8 p.m. at Gusman Concert Hall on the Coral Gables campus. Tickets range from $15 to $20 and are free for UM students with a ’Cane Card.

Carothers is an acclaimed American singer-songwriter originally from Portland, Oregon. He currently serves on the faculty of the Nashville Songwriters Association International “Song Camps” and participates in independent seminars and workshops across the country. Artists such as Kathy Mattea, Lorrie Morgan, Andrea Zonn, and Steve Seskin have recorded his songs. Carothers also wrote several songs for the 2005 movie The Californians.

The Stamps Family Charitable Foundation Distinguished Visitors Series was established in 2003 through the extraordinary vision and generous commitment of Roe and Penny Stamps. The annual series brings an array of significant artists, scholars, and music industry leaders to the Frost School of Music for the educational and artistic enrichment of its students as well as the community.

Cardiology Grand Rounds: Genetic Analysis of Cardiovascular Disease

‘Legerdemain’ Exhibition Captures Views of Everyday Life

The College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History presents the solo exhibition Legerdemain, by photographer Jeffrey Stern, on view February 6 to 24 at Wynwood Project Space, 2200-A N.W. Second Avenue, Miami. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, February 11.

The exhibition features recent work that explores an unseen view of the interaction of people, their environment, and the interplay of light. Through a series of 40 photographs, Stern has captured views of everyday life that we all pass by, unaware of their existence.

Nurturing Healthy Relationships

Realistic expectations and effective communication are two critical components to nurturing important relationships. This lunchtime seminar, offered by the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), will explore the characteristics of a healthy relationship and offer tips for promoting positive environments and fruitful interactions. FSAP Health and Wellness seminars are offered as part of the University of Miami’s Well ’Canes Program.

Coral Gables campus: Tuesday, February 7, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Whitten University Center, Room 245.

Miller School of Medicine campus: Wednesday, February 8, from 12 to 1 p.m. at University of Miami Hospital, Seminar Center C.
